CMD is Repeat Winner of National Award

APPLETON, WI; May, 2017 – For the 3rd consecutive year, equipment technology manufacturer CMD Corporation has earned a place among of the Best Places to Work in the Plastics Industry by the international trade publication, Plastics News, and Best Companies Group.

This Best Places to Work program honors the best employers in the plastics industry; those benefiting the economy, workforce, and businesses in the United States and Canada. CMD has been among the top 10 companies selected for all of the last three years.

“This award belongs to our employees,” says Steve Sakai, CMD President.  “We have a group of very innovative, creative thinking individuals, very mechanically inclined. They’ve been very successful in helping us advance technology to develop high-performing solutions for our customers.”

Companies from across the United States and Canada entered the two-part survey process to determine the Plastics News’ Best Places to Work. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process, analyzed the data and determined the final rankings.

Plastics News honored all the winners and revealed the final rankings in a special ceremony at The Executive Forum on March 28. The actual rankings were published on April 17, 2017, by Plastics News.

Several reasons factored into CMD earning a place on the top 12 list, including: wellness program and Health Lifestyle Appraisals; coaching and wellness activities; diverse employees with long tenure and low turnover; generous personal time-off. More than 90% of CMD employees surveyed said they were proud to work at the firm.

The firm held an event on May 16 to thank employees and recognize their contributions towards the winning of this award for 3 years running.  Speakers at the event were Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna, and NEW Manufacturing Alliance Director, Ann Franz as well as CMD President, Stephen Sakai.

CMD acknowledges collaboration with Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) through their International Market Access program, and Fox Valley Technical College through customized employee training as being instrumental in growing employment and sales for the firm.  Involvement with industry organizations like the NEW Manufacturing Alliance has helped CMD add to its diverse employee base.  Employment at CMD is up 46% since 2011.

The IMAG program through WEDC supported CMD international marketing efforts such as exhibitions at major industry trade shows, international agent representative searches, and development of multi-language marketing materials. Much of CMD’s recent growth can be attributed to additional international business—an increase in exports of 66% since 2013. In the past three years, CMD has expanded sales into Southern Europe, Middle East and Central America.
